Projects, Worksheet and Notebook

Project - Albert's data object designed to organize information and plan out work. Projects are a way to organize information within Albert and help promote digital collaboration between teams.

Worksheet - One of the main project modules used for designing and managing formulas and associated tasks in an Excel-like grid.

Notebook - The Albert Notebook is another main project module used for organizing your laboratory work in a centralized, secure place that is connected to other parts of the Albert platform. The Notebook captures data in block actions and allow unstructured data capture for daily laboratory activities.

Tasks

Task - A unit of work typically associated with projects.

  • Batch Task - A task for the creation of new batches of formulas. Captures the physical quantity and lot of Raw materials used to prepare a subset of a formula.

  • Property Task - A task for the analysis of formulas and other inventory. Utilizes Parameter Groups and Data Templates to structure the data captured during analysis.

  • General Task - A task for any other work users would like to track in Albert. Can be used as a request, observation, or documentation of unstructured activities.

Inventory

Inventory - Albert's tool for tracking your materials.

  • Formulas - Inventory items that represent entire product/formulas composed of various raw materials.

  • Raw Material - Inventory items used in formulations.

  • Consumable - Used to track all types of laboratory consumables (substrates, filters, ect) that are not used as raw materials.

  • Equipment - used to track all types of equipment, devices, machines, or other assets.

Inventory Lot - Lots of Inventory items are the physical representation of Raw Materials, Formulas, Consumables, and Equipment in your laboratory.

Parameter Groups and Data Templates

Parameter Group - Represents a unique process or procedure that is run in the laboratory, such as a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). They are made up of individual parameters that represent process variables such as time, temperature, and speed. Parameter groups can be combined when creating Tasks to track a set of instructions that details the process that is to be followed. Parameter groups can be added to Batch Tasks or Property Tasks.

Data Template - A data table that allows users to capture clean, structured data about experiments. Parameter Groups are associated with Property Tasks and track sets or instructions.

Reports

Report - An Excel-like view of project data with the ability to chart, visualize, and manipulate it in a variety of ways, including filtering, pivoting, and plotting against multiple variables.

Access Control

Project Roles - An access level permission given to better manage visibility and edit control to child objects of the Project and provide more granular access controls to which access can be managed.

  • Owner - The Owner has full access to the Project and is the only user who can add users to the project or update the user roles. The owner can view and edit the Project details, worksheet, and tasks within the project.

  • Editor - An Editor has full access to the Project. An editor has the same access as an owner but cannot add or edit access roles within the Project.

  • Viewer - A Viewer will have view-only access to the Project and Worksheet. They will not be able to edit Project details or any information in the Worksheet but will be able to view and edit Tasks within the Project.

  • All Tasks Editor - All Tasks Editor users will be able to view a Project and the Project details, but they will not be able to see the Worksheet tab in the Project. Task only (All Tasks) users will be able to view and edit both batch and property Tasks within the Project.

  • Property Tasks Editor - Property Tasks Editor users will be able to view a Project and the Project details, but they will not be able to see the Worksheet tab in the Project. Unlike All Tasks users, property Task users will not be able to view or edit Batch Tasks and will only be able to view and edit Property Tasks within the Project.

Object and User Class - All objects (Tasks, Inventory items, Projects, Lots, etc.) and Users are given classes in Albert, allowing for granular, customized management of access to every object in Albert. Combined, these classes reduce the overhead of managing access control on an object-by-object and user-by-user basis.

  • Standard - Standard users have full access to all shared objects (read and write), but have to be granted named access to edit other objects. Standard users can view all restricted objects details and lists, but need to be granted named access for edit rights.

  • Trusted - Trusted users are given default rights to all restricted objects. This means that trusted users can edit all property tasks, general tasks, parameter groups, and data templates (assuming their policy gives them this access).

  • Privileged - Privileged users are by defaults able to view and edit all private objects, restricted objects, and shared objects. These users, by default will have rights to all formulations (assuming their policy gives them this access).

  • Admin - Admin users have access to everything a privileged users does, but they also have full access to confidential objects.

Other

Tags - Tags are an easy way to quickly track, search, and filter your Albert Inventory and Tasks. By using tags, you can group Inventory and/or Tasks according to specific features, methods, teams, etc. Tags can be found on the left side of your screen after opening the Inventory or Tasks menu.
